What is VPK?
VPK stands for Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten. It is a FREE educational program that gives your children the opportunity to prepare for Kindergarten/Elementary School.
Who is eligible for the free VPK program?
Children that are 4 years old on or before September 1st are eligible to participate in the VPK program. Our program is available Monday thru Friday from 9am-12 pm.
Jelly Bean Junction is an A rated VPK Program based on school readiness test scores!
Jelly Bean Junction's VPK program follows the Brevard County School Board's calendar. This year the first day of VPK will be on August 10, 2016 and will end on May 24, 2017.
Parents may go to the Early Learning Coalition of Brevard‘s Website to get information on how to register for voluntary pre-kindergarten and on what documents are needed to obtain a VPK Certificate. Once parents obtain their VPK Certificate, they may bring it to our school in order to hold their child’s place in our program. Visit ELC Website for more information:
What else should I know?
VPK at Jelly Bean Junction starts promptly at 9am and ends at noon. The state of Florida requires every VPK Program to administer the VPK Assessment to each child three times a year. There are four assessment measures: Print Knowledge, Phonological Awareness, Mathematics and Oral Language/Vocabulary.The first assessment is used as a baseline for the teachers so they can teach according to strengths and weaknesses of each individual child. After the second assessment, we hold parent conferences to discuss how their child is progressing. There are Nooks in each of our VPK Classrooms for children to work on educational Apps focusing on the areas that are assessed on the VPK Assessment. VPK state ratio is 11 students to 1 teacher.
We will also hold a VPK Orientation Night before the beginning of the school year for all families enrolled to ensure all your questions are answered when it comes to knowing you made the right decision by CHOOSING JBJ FOR VPK!
